Award Winning olive oils by Mohaka Olive Ltd
In 2006 Mohaka did its first pressing. To be able to use the title
"extra virgin" and oil needs not only to originate from a first cold
pressing, but to then pass a rigorous regime of testing and tasting.
Mohaka passed with flying colours, and then won gold at its first
outing.

Invest in Mohaka
In today's economic climate, it is nice to know that some things will
still retain its value and due to the fact that after 4 years of
fruiting, an olive grove is then valued on the same level as a vineyard
being higher than its current valuation, it is definitely a positive
move in the right direction.
We only have a few groves left that are available for purchase which all
have long term management leases in place with guaranteed returns. The
beauty of this purchase is that you are not only part of a growth
industry in New Zealand, but you are also part of one of the largest
olive groves in New Zealand producing Gold medal Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Why Olive Oil?
Olive oil, particularly extra virgin olive oil, has health-giving
properties that are not duplicated in other oils. For example:
* It's anti-carcinogenic. Good olive oil is abundant in
polyphenols, potent plant antioxidants proven to protect against
cancer-causing cell damage. Additionally, it now seems as if the oil's
monounsaturated fat has anti-cancer effects.
* It protects against heart disease. Olive oil raises the levels
of good HDL cholesterol, and lowers the levels of the bad LDL
cholesterol. It also reduces inflammation, itself a contributor to
coronary disease.
* It lowers blood pressure. High blood pressure (above 120/80)
seems to be a side effect of modern life. Again, it's the polyphenols in
extra virgin olive oil that help lower blood pressure.
* It helps you lose weight. Believe it or not, while all oils have
essentially the same kilojoules, the richer, fuller taste of a good
virgin olive oil means that you use less.
* It reduces pain and inflammation. Extra virgin olive oil
contains oleocanthal, a natural compound that simulates the effects of
ibuprofen.
And did you know that olive oil is the only oil that can be consumed as
it is - freshly pressed from the fruit, and unprocessed? It therefore
retains all its health-giving properties, the monounsaturated fatty
acids and the oleic acid that can be broken down by heating or
processing.
New Zealand Olive Oil:
New Zealand extra virgin oil consistently wins awards worldwide, and as
of December 2005 The International Olive Council (OIC) has granted
accreditation to the Olives New Zealand Sensory Panel - one of only 35
such panels worldwide.
Food critics say that the New Zealand climate contributes to make New
Zealand extra virgin oils superior. The fruit matures and ripens more
slowly, and is exposed to greater temperature ranges. The result is the
rich and fruity taste characteristic of many local oils.
Mohaka Oil:
Mohaka director, Rob White, has been involved in the New Zealand olive
oil industry since its earliest commercial days. When the opportunity
presented itself to undertake a project on this scale, Rob jumped at the
opportunity, and so began a two-year search for the ideal location. When
Mohaka presented itself, Rob knew he had the right spot - abundant water
for irrigation, ideal soil conditions, and a climate that just smiles on
olives.
The decision was then made to plant out a variety of nine cultivars. As
Rob explains, while olives are resistant trees, and are not particularly
prone to disease, choosing a variety of types helps to spread any
possible risk. As with grapes, some varieties will fruit better in any
given year, depending on climatic conditions, and the selection of
cultivars gives Mohaka the ability to average its production.
Mohaka extra virgin oil has a rich, tangy flavour. Like a fine wine, the
difference between this product and the cheaper imported "extra virgin"
oils is striking. And Mohaka wins awards wherever it goes.
A summer evening, a good Sauvignon Blanc or maybe a dry Riesling, some
foccaccio and Mohaka dipping oil. Try it! You'll love it! Or drizzle it
over your favourite pasta and appreciate the difference a truly fine oil
can make.
Questions
The following are some questions and answers to assist your decision
making and if you are further interested then please contact us for an
information pack and update on which Lots are still available.
Who looks after the Grove?
The Mohaka Olive Grove estate consists of over 90 hectares of fertile
land which is located above the gorge of the Mohaka River. The estate is
divided into 8 individual freehold titles with seven of them being
actual groves with fruiting trees. The 7 lots are pictured herein and
the 8th lot is being retained by Mohaka Olives ltd (the management
co.)as this is housed by the on-site manager.
With the overseeing and supervision of the grove by our project manager,
the grove is managed and cared for 7 days a week. Our team maintain the
groves daily as well as being responsible for pruning, spraying, pump
management and all duties relating to making this a viable venture and
investment.
How does this investment work?
Currently available are 3 groves, each consisting of approximately 9.3
hectares on individual freehold titles. You own the property and
fruiting trees which is then leased back off you by Mohaka Olives
Limited, at a guaranteed percentage return, based on the purchase price,
starting at 6% and increasing by 1% per annum until you reach 10%. This
is then reviewed with the management company and will never go under 10%
returns... better than a bank because you still own it.
A 25 year lease is taken by the management company being; 10 x 10 x 5
year leases. This shows that Mohaka Olives limited expects to be in this
for the long run and in saying that, they themselves have retained Lot 1
because quite simply, they believe completely in this investment is one
to definitely keep for the future.
Each Lot owner will also receive 100 shares in the water rights which in
itself is a valuable asset.
What does it cost me?
Apart from the initial purchase price, there are no other outgoings.
Mohaka Olives Limited covers the cost of rates, insurances, maintenance
and anything else related to the smooth operation of the groves.
